Hi, I'm Kat. Thanks for stopping by Flourish Editing!

I'm a fantasy, sci-fi and romance editor with a passion for helping authors improve their craft and grow.

Why 'Flourish Editing'? I love working with authors to strengthen their manuscripts, but also their overall craft. The current project is not the end goal - I want the authors I work with to learn through our work together so that going forward they have the tools and confidence to write the best books they can. In short, I hope my authors flourish.

What can you expect when working with me? Personal, supportive and constructive feedback. As I writer, I know how much time and heart goes into writing a novel and I understand the value of good feedback that both sheds a light on places to improve and fills you with confidence. I want you to see how you make your manuscript the best it can be, and I want you feel like you're more than capable of doing that. My reports are detailed to help you understand where your strengths are, what could be improved, and - importantly - why that is. They always contain actionable points to help you take the next steps with your project.

Who am I? I'm a writer, mother, runner and cat-servant. I live in London, UK, with my partner, daughter and two black-and-white cats. As well as editing, I write patient information for a small cancer charity...very different from my fiction writing that's very firmly in the fantasy camp. You'll come across a lot of running analogies in my blog posts - half because most of my best ideas come to me whilst running, and half because distance running and novel writing have a lot in common. I've written since I could hold a pen, and have spent my life learning the craft. More recently, I've undertaken mentoring to refine my editing skills specifically so I can best support other authors.

Who do you work with? Authors of fantasy, sci-fi and romance, at any stage of their career. Whether it's your first novel, or your tenth, I'm here to help you learn more and strengthen your manuscript. Age wise, I'll work on anything from YA upwards. In terms of romance, I'm comfortable with all the spice, although I tend to steer away from romance novels with darker themes.

Who don't you work with? I'm not the best person to work on your thriller or literary novel, simply because I am not well read enough in those genres to provide you with the in depth feedback you're looking for. Horror is also a hard pass - I'm just too much of scaredy-cat! I don't work on graphic novels or children's books.

Interested in working with me? I'd love to hear from you. Get in touch below!
